A regular massage can prevent muscles from becoming overly tight & stressed. When muscles are constantly stressed they are more likely to develop trigger points (commonly known as 'knots). These trigger points prevent the muscle from moving properly & if left untreated can create problems elsewhere as other muscles try to make up for the immobility of the initial muscle. In time this can create trigger points in these muscles also & a vicious cycle begins.
So like most things a little regular maintenance can prevent a bigger problem.
